2012 Independence and Mobility Fair
.” The event will take place at the company’s 500 Central Avenue, Bethpage, NY facility on Friday,
September 14
from 10am-5pm and on Saturday,
September 15
from 10am-4pm.


The fair attracts hundreds of people living with physical disabilities, their friends and families to learn about all types of accessibility products and services to help them be more independent and make their lives easier. Have you ever imagined how incredible it would be to fly a plane? Freedom’s Wings International can make that dream come true! It’s a non-profit organization that provides the opportunity for people with disabilities to fly in specially adapted sailplanes. This is just so cool! On Saturday, October 13th, and Sunday, October 14th, Freedom’s Wings will offer
free
introductory rides to individuals with disabilities. (Rain dates are October 20-21). The event will be hosted by the Adirondack Soaring Club at Saratoga County Airport in Ballston Spa, New York (

There will be fabulous food, valet parking, and raffles with great prizes.

Did you know that it’s the law in New York (and many other states) for commercial and residential properties to provide access for people with physical disabilities? That includes apartment buildings, supermarkets, shops, movie theaters, restaurants, etc. – just about any place you can think of going.

More and more laws are being passed to support us in our daily lives, but usually it’s a real fight to get people to comply. That’s what happened when I asked the condo board of the apartment building where I live to make the building accessible; and when I requested that my gym put in a chairlift at the pool and an accessible toilet and shower. But I fought and I won…and I want you to know you can do the same thing!
