Wheelchair Van Giveaway Contest

Three wheelchair accessible vans will be given away this May as part of the second annual National Mobility Awareness Month contest. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is sponsoring the event, with the participation of local dealers like
Bussani Mobility Team
all across North America.


“We’re delighted to continue this important movement after a successful inaugural year,” said Dave Hubbard, executive director and CEO of NMEDA. “Last year, we welcomed more than 1,700 entries, had 1.2 million votes cast, and delivered wheelchair accessible vans to three amazing families. We remain humbled by the response and look forward to creating life changing experiences in the lives of this year’s winners.”

March 13th New York Mobility Club meeting, which was all about Adaptive Sports.


Tony Fitzgerald (a paralympian and 3-sport athlete who currently plays for the NY rangers and Long Island Roughriders sled hockey teams) shared his insights into how sports can have a curative effect. He said: “Wheelchair sports are not just sports, they’re therapy. Everybody can find a sport that they can customize, adapt, or improvise. You can do amazing things.”

 


In taking questions from the group, he got into the nitty gritty of how things work. One participant said he doesn’t have the hand strength to grip a hockey stick. And Tony responded, “You don’t need it. You’d be amazed at what a little duct tape can [...]
